As per the latest report, The Wildlife veterinarians and biologists in Northern America have been rather worried over the deer herds of Canada wasting away. Zombie Disease Canada, A strange and extremely transmissible pathogen has been infecting the captive and the wild population of the ungulates, which has been recognized as the Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). Deer in the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta have been viewing symptoms of drastic weight loss (wasting away), excessive thirst and urination, stumbling, drooling, lack of coordination, lack of fear of people, listlessness, and other potentiation predators.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States, the CWD affects deer, reindeer, elk, moose, and sika deer. It has been discovered in some areas of North America, including Canada, the United States, South Korea, and Norway. CWD is caused by abnormal, pathogenic agents called “prions”. These are types of proteins that can trigger normal proteins in the brain to fold uncommonly and the disease belongs to the same class of infections called Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs).

When discover in cattle, it is known as the bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) or the “mad cow disease, in sheep and goats it is called Scrapie, and in humans, it is known as the Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD). The CWD was first detected in captured mule deer at Colorado and Wyoming research facilities in the late 1960s and was first recognized as a lethal wasting syndrome. Later on, it was detected in the wild populations in Colorado in the year 1981. Since the 1st outbreak, CWD has been discovered in at least 26 states in the United States and is now being considered an endemic in Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, South Dakota, and Montana.
