Scott emerged as a Verzuz phenomenon in 2020 after going head-to-head on the virtual battle series against neo-soul queen Erykah Badu.
However, Scott explained before and after the event, her and Badu’s Verzuz showdown was more of a “celebration” of each other’s discographies than a traditional “battle.”
“I didn’t like the ‘battle’ energy of [Verzuz], that kinda turned me off,” she told Big Tigger on RADIO.com and V-103 days after the event.
She added “I don’t want to fight. I didn’t like that ‘battle’ stuff, so I let it go. Then, I get a call from Erykah.
She was like, ‘Yo, they wanna do this battle, this Verzuz.’ Like, it sounds like it could be good, the energy just has to be right.
She said, ‘What if we celebrate each other?’ I said, ‘That’s what I’m talking about!’ Celebrate each other.”
“You don’t last this long and want to destroy others,” Scott added.
